Finding Home Through the English Service

Emilia's testimony

I am originally from Namibia and currently living in Noyal Châtillon-sur-Seiche, in the south of Rennes. Moving to a new country is both exciting and challenging, especially when you are still learning the language. While I am doing my best to learn French, finding a place where I could truly feel at home spiritually was not easy.

The recent introduction of the English service has meant more to me than I can fully express. Worshiping God in English is very rare here and has been difficult to find, so having this service has given me the opportunity to connect with God in a language I feel comfortable and confident in. It has helped me navigate my new reality and feel grounded in my faith.

The songs we sing during the service are especially meaningful to me. They are songs I sang for many years while still in Namibia, and they are very relatable. Singing them again brings a deep sense of familiarity and comfort, and it truly feels like worshiping from the heart. The message shared once a month is also very impactful. It is always clearly illustrated and easy to relate to, making God’s Word come alive in a practical and encouraging way.

Beyond worship, the English service has also opened the door to meaningful relationships. I have met truly wonderful people from all across the world who have touched my life in beautiful and unexpected ways. We have shared simple but special moments together, collecting mushrooms in the forest, cooking and enjoying meals at home, baking Christmas cookies, and spending time in fellowship. These moments have created a strong sense of community and belonging.

For me, the English service is more than just a service. It is a place where faith, friendship, and culture meet. It has been one of the best things that has happened to me since moving to Rennes, and I am deeply grateful for the space it creates for people like me to worship God and connect with others who share the same faith.

I would encourage anyone, whether a native or non-native English speaker, who is looking for a place to worship, connect and fellowship with others to come and experience the English service.
